If you need to show some kinds of loading in progress, you consider to use ajax. Meaning your page will load with a "spinning loading icon" at first place. And then the page make an ajax request to get real report. While the page is loading the real report via ajax, "spinning loading icon" is showing. When 10s passed, the loading is finish, you turn off the "spinning icon" and update the content. This can be done with SubReport.
